# Staking and monthly yield

> Stake shUSD for a monthly cash yield. Unstaked tokens accrue value.

## Staked shUSD: monthly cash yield

Stake shUSD in the Shores app to receive a monthly cash yield, with an **8% target**. You are paid for the time your shUSD was actually staked during the month.

The yield is credited to your balance in the app. You can withdraw it at any time or leave it there.

## Unstaked shUSD: value accrual

If you do not stake, your shUSD does not receive cash. Its share of net interest stays in the vault and raises NAV, so unstaked tokens accrue value.

## Where the yield comes from

Borrowers pay 13–15% on bridge loans secured by first liens on real property. After fees and the split, the 8% target is what reaches staked shUSD. See [Fees and economics](/technical/fees).

<Warning>
  8% is a target, not a promise. The actual yield can be higher or lower. It depends on loan performance, how much of the vault is lent out, and fees.
</Warning>

## Unstaking

\[TBD: unstaking process and any cooldown]
